The National Institute of Anthropology and History has revealed that Mexican archeologists have found 23 engraved stones depicting serpents, prisoners, ornaments and warriors referring to the birth of Huitzilopochtli, the Aztec god of war and the origin of the Holy War, in the vicinity of the main temple of Tenochtitlan. The stones are estimated to be over 550 years old. Their importance lies in the fact that it’s the first time that there is such a big finding of carved stones depicting, in the way of an iconographic document, to create a speech narrating certain myths of this ancient civilization. They measure 16.7 meters long by 3.3 meters wide. It is estimated that they correspond to the fourth constructive period of the temple, that took place between 1440 and 1469 a.C.
