As a result of a letter sent to Department of State Secretary, Hillary Rodhnam Clinton by UNINTER’s president, Javier Espinosa, requesting a clarification of the terms contained in the State Department Travel Alert on Mexico, UNINTER was invited to attend a meeting with an official of the Public Diplomacy Office at the White House, Ms. Mara Tekach, Minister Counselor for Cultural Affairs and Information at the American Embassy in Mexico city and Ms. Araceli Parte Arroyo, Senior Academic Specialist at the diplomatic mission, together with representatives of the eight most important public and private universities in Mexico, Several American Universities and other international education institutions, where an update the Travel Alert by the State Department was presented, under the title “Yes you can study in Mexico. Myths and realities about traveling in Mexico”.
In the chapter dealing with the State of Morelos, where Cuernavaca is located and was downgraded to a third level out of four categories on travel to Mexican areas, which are: first “defer non essential travel”, second “exercise extreme caution”, third “exercise caution”, and fourth “no advisory is in effect”.
UNINTER welcomes the update and would like to point out that so far there have been no foreigners targeted by criminal organizations and that by exercising the caution required in any city in the world, its not only possible to be safe but to have a great learning experience in the hospitable city of eternal spring, Cuernavaca.
